Spanish festoon in Cantabria

Big excitement on Sunday as we set off to confirm a sighting Teresa had around the same time last year of a Spanish festoon in Cillorigo de Liébana.

Spanish swallowtail

Family - Papilionidae

Genus - Iphiclides

Species - I. feisthameli (Duponchel) ( = Iphiclides podalirius feisthameli)

Spanish name - Chupaleche

The Spanish swallowtail is a large butterfly distributed over the Iberian peninsula with incursions south into Morocco and north into southern France.
