A cool, wet late spring made for an atmospheric hike up to the Cabaña Veronica in the central massif of the Picos de Europa.
From the top station of Fuente De cable car we headed past the ponds in the Vueltona, home to Alpine newts and Gavarnie blue butterflies (though not seen this day) up to the shifting clouds surrounding the one-of-a-kind refuge.
